Synopsis:

In 19th century Russia, a crime takes place within the ranks of the Army’s infantry division. A soldier faces a military tribunal and execution by firing squad. Grigoriy Kolokoltsev, a young and enthusiastic lieutenant full of progressive ideas calls on his friend, Count Leo Tolstoy,  to come to the aid of the accused soldier. Tolstoy accepts and soon becomes the accused’s attorney.
